With reference to your Secret telegram
No.54 of 3rd May, 1935, I have the honour to enclose for
your information copy of correspondence as noted in the margin between the Chief Manager of the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation and the Colonial Secretary on the subject of the Macao Waterworks. It will be observed that 5. Chief Manager's letter a concessionary contract has been given to

with an option of renewal. The Macao Waterworks Company is owned by the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation and the Macao Electric Lighting Company, Limited, in the proportions of four-fifths and one-fifth respectively. The estimated cost of erection of the new Waterworks will probably exceed $2,000,000.00 Hong Kong currency.

The Chief Manager states that he is reasonably satisfied that as a commercial proposition the scheme should be successful and that the Corporation is prepared to be responsible for all financial risks in connection with the scheme, but he requests a guarantee
